Your fateWe'll never forget you, honest.

Ha ha ha. Grindelwald. They did that because they knew I'm in Germany... Charlie Blue, I shall de-friend you if you do this! No hang on, I won't be able to, because I won't have an LJ.... (only joking of course, as is this whole piece of Blödsinn).

Anyway, incidentally... here's a scribble of Dumbledore's ex-boyfriend the merry thief, not looking quite as merry as I wanted, more devious. incidentally, the first piece of DH fan art I did, even before the picture of Neville.

Ich hab das Holder-Stäbli chlaut!

EDIT: Oh yeah, and can I take this moment to be completely anal and congratulate JKR on getting the German right in DH. She even had the dots over the a in 'Doppelgänger'.  So many published authors - even Booker Prize nominated authors *cough* get this stuff wrong, mixing up ei and ie or articles and such. I must add though that this happens in every language: the mangling of English spelling and grammar over here is quite awful too. Yeah, I'm anal, I know.

Oooh, lovely! I really like the expression on his face and the rings on his fingers. ;)

"She even had the dots over the a in 'Doppelgänger'. So many published authors - even Booker Prize nominated authors *cough* get this stuff wrong"

I'm sure you're right about authors getting foreign languages wrong often . . . but in this case - I'm going to play devil's advocate and say that the word 'Doppelganger' can be spelled both with and without the umlaut in English, and still be considered 'proper' English. As we don't have umlauts in English - and 'Doppelganger' is a borrowed word that we use and do not have an English equivalent for - it makes sense for us to use that word without the umlaut. 'Borrowed' foreign words often change meaning some as well, as in 'Angst' - which in English usage means more 'anguish' and 'anxiety' than it does the more German equivalent 'fear'.

Sorry - I'm a complete language geek and I love German so please just ignore me if all this is irritating. ;)

Haha, no it's not irritating. I agree about 'doppelganger' - I know it's borrowed and spelled correctly without the ä in English too. I just felt the ä was an extra bonus. The thing about authors 'getting stuff wrong' was referring to the 'mixing up ei and ie and articles'. I suppose I should have phrased that less ambiguously. Oh, we spelling & grammar nitpickers... now I am overcome with spelling angst and shall become über-nitpicky. ;)

Thankyou! I loved that scene when I read it... I was as fascinated by the merry thief as Harry - and Voldemort.

Wow, that's the most beautiful Gellert I've seen so far, I think.

And I work an office job, so you know I've got a LOT of time to look at fanart.

I know facial expressions are tricky. That's why, even though the rest of the room is roughly sketched out, I still added it, because his face was very well done.

Grindelwald looks more mischievous than serious. He reminds me a lot of Kurt Wagner. I love the woodworker's table. It looks like my own. Alorkin

Hey, thanks! I haven't been in a woodworker's studio for a long time so I was kind of sketchily improvising there. I'm glad you like it! (There's not much to see, though)

Ooh, I love his expression! It's so very fitting for him.

I was so stoked that JKR got the German right too, the umlaut definitely included! (I once read a Norwegian book in which the author had written rest in piece on a gravstone. It nearly made me physically ill. But yeah, I guess piece can make sense as well in that situation...)

Hehe, he does look pretty glamrock, but somehow it fits for Grindelwald. I love the detail you put into the workshop--looks exactly like a wandmaker's should. I'm gonna scamper over to your gallery. Nice work!

Awesome picture! Just how I imagined him! :)

Actually I'd like to request something. I'm making a fanlisting for Grindelwald (well, actually it's already on the web, but that version was only made so I could get it out before TFL.org's deadline :D) and I'd really like to use this picture of yours on the layout. Would you give a permission to do that? Please? I'd of course credit you and link back to your lj profile or deviantArt or whichever...

I'd be forever grateful. :)

The fanlisting is now finished. Didn't take too long, since it was otherwise done already, just missing a picture... :)

Again, thank you!

Awesome! Whee, I'm so pleased. (Though how ironic that it should be GRINDELWALD... I mean, merry thief notwithstanding, he's supposed to be a pretty awful person, hehe). I did actually put a better scan of that pic up on my dA page(see links list)which is slightly better quality, but this one's fine too.
